After a few hours trapped inside due to cold, rainy conditions, we finally forced the kids outside to tromp in the woods and play on the swing set. While they were out there, I took the opportunity to play with my zoom lens (a Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens, for those who care), a piece of equipment I’ve been having trouble mastering.
I just haven’t been happy with the photos I take with the lens – those I’ve taken have been kind of flat looking, the colors haven’t been very vibrant and when I really “zoom in” everything gets really fuzzy. All things, I discovered are pretty typical challenges when using this type of lens.
Yesterday, I started to hit my stride with the lens. I’m not really sure why, maybe it was the light (or lack of it) or maybe it was because I didn’t try to zoom to the point I could see up my child’s nose, but I was really happy with some of the images I captured, including this one of Sophie.
I also have to share this one because I keep telling Steve that if he continues to make those funny faces I will use the picture.
