This is too funny. A friend posted the Over achieving elf blog on FB. I read it and thought to myself…the Manic Mommies have to read this. I laughed when I listened to your podcast the same evening and you two were all over it! I did the Elf on the Shelf for the first time this year and now I’m regretting it. Can I tell them next year that our elf decided not to come back???
Once again, ladies, I feel understood when I listen to you!!! We don’t do elf on the shelf either, my empty boxes of Christmas decorations are still in my hallway, and I can barely manage the minimum Christmas obligations!
Thank you, just for sharing!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! The opening about elf on the shelf totally spoke to me. At our church group yesterday all the mommies were talking about the elf on shelf and all the things they’ve been doing…I felt like I was failing my daughter because we are not an elf on the shelf family…but now I am going to wear the badge proudly! Who has the time and who can remember- I can barely remember the advent calendar…and half the time I don’t remember- I blame pregnancy brain for that though. But once again…THANK YOU!
My husband is famous for the “just meat” on a plate dinner! Drives me crazy!!! Recently I printed out the new USDA my plate image (http://www.choosemyplate.gov) and founds it is great for teaching kids and husbands about complete meals.
We have an elf and at first I had GRAND plans for that elf. Now, he gets moved around but does not get into trouble. He’s usually sitting around somewhere in our house. I will say that having the elf has helped with behavior because I threaten my kids with him! A coworker even wrote a letter from Santa to my kids after a particularly horrible night that the elf delivered. But my elf will be making minimum movements next year if he shows up at all.
And I am so far behind on Christmas this year and also underappreciated for what I have done. All I want for Christmas is a clean house. Not the microwave that my husband keeps hinting that I will be getting.
And my kids keep saying that mom and dad don’t buy good gifts, they only come from Santa and that we just get them underwear and clothes and boring stuff. I about spilled the beans on Santra right then and there.
Ladies, love the podcast! I am totally not feeling Christmas this year and I am also feeling unappreciated. I have LITERALLY been running my tush off trying to get presents for everyone (in-laws included) and what does my husband say…”I can’t wait for Christmas to be over so you will be home more and won’t be out shopping as much.” I haven’t heard any “thank you dear, I know how difficult it is to fight the mall crowds to go pick up presents for MY mom and MY sister” or “thank you dear, for creating a wonderful Christmas menu, buying all the food AND cooking it”. And to top it all off, we got into an argument because my sister and her family are coming over Christmas day and that was just too much for HIM. Oiy….
This is my favorite podcast theme. Call it misery loves company, but I love that you tell it like it is. And I agree with banishing the “Mommy Wars”. I started listening to you when I was home, through when I went back to work, and thanks for the economy, am back at home again. I have to commend you on being relevant no matter what my situation. We are all in this together!
THANK YOU for helping me realise that I am not the only one who is feeling ragged this Christmas. I’m not feeling it at all this year. Thank you also for mentioning the Elf on a Shelf… I never heard of it until 3 years ago and I was feeling guitly for not doing it
I loved this podcast! I saw this article today and knew I had to send it to you. Enjoy! http://thestir.cafemom.com/big_kid/130507/lesson_28_elf_on_the
Hey Kristin, I have a husband, 3 teen boys and a preteen girl and just like Steve I am always surprised when the groceries are gone too. They disappear so quickly. Why do they have to eat so much and all of the time?
Merry Christmas!!
Ladies,
I didn’t think that you complained too much on this episode. I loved it, and I, too, am not into the Elf on the Shelf. I don’t have the time, nor the desire to start one-more-thing to do/keep up with! Love your honesty each week! Happy New Year!
While there is much to complain about, I am VERY grateful for one thing. We have not heard of Elf on a Shelf down here in my part of Australia.
Thank goodness!! Hopefully it will stay away until my children are too old for it. Our school year also finishes a week before Christmas as this is the start of our summer holiday. I have WAY to much to do already!
Hi Kristin – I would really like to buy a new pillow and am interested in the one you’ve spoken about on the podcast. Was is the air fit adjustable or a different one? Thanks so much!!
Carrie – I have the Memory Fiber AirFit adjustable pillow. It’s a little less “weighty” than the CoolFit Foam Sleep Number originally sent to use.
