Let me start this post with a little housekeeping…. First, if you had a chance to read ROOM with us we are discussing the book on Big Tent this week. If you do not use Big Tent, click here for a recap of our discussion and the chance to voice your opinion. I think most of us liked this book, it was a page turner! Second, let me say thank you for all the great author recommendations for 2011! We have some great books selected and will be talking with some of your favorite authors next year.

If you read along with us you know our book club enjoy reading books about women, focusing on the complexity of relationships and overcoming situations.  There will be a lot to discuss this month with our November selection, The Good Sister. Just a reminder that we do record the calls and post them the book club archive if you are reading along but do not have a chance to make a call, you can always catch up and hear author insights.

We have several copies to give away to Manic Mommies listeners and book clubbers. The book discussion is scheduled for November 17, watch for details on how to join the conversation as we get closer to the date.

Synopsis: Synopsis: Roxanne Callahan has always been her younger sister’s caretaker. Now married, her happiness is threatened when beautiful and emotionally unstable Simone, suffering from crippling postpartum depression, commits an unforgivable crime for which Roxanne comes to believe she is partially responsible. In the glare of national media attention brought on her sister, Roxanne fights to hold her marriage together as she is drawn back into the pain of her troubled past and relives the fraught relationship she and Simone shared with their narcissistic mother. At the same time, only she can help Simone’s nine year old daughter, Merell, make sense of the family’s tragedy. Cathartic, lyrical, and unflinchingly honest, THE GOOD SISTER is a novel of four generations of women struggling to overcome a legacy of violence, lies and secrecy, ultimately finding strength and courage in their love for each other.
