We may be a day late, but hopefully this retake is a better show because of it! This week we talk about Kristin’s family trip to Jamaica (courtesy of the Jamaican Travel Board); traveling with kids, resort nannies and wonder whether there should there be kids-only sections on airplanes.

Thinking of the pics and just listening to you chat….got me through another humid run. Can’t wait to see you both in a few short months. If only they weren’t so chaotic….

Another great show! I love when you to chat. I also appreciated the story of the mother at the airport. I have to admit, before having kids, I was the self-righteous lady on the cell phone. Now, I’m the mom who always has 1-2 kids out of control. I would totally like a family section in airplanes. Heck, I might even pay extra for the piece of mind!

I think I’d like a family section on planes, though I have some reservations about what it means if your family doesn’t get seated in that section or if the airlines will see it as a great new way to add yet another fee.

Today we were at a hot springs resort in Colorado. It has about 20 different pools. Most are “adult-only” pools and are located above the locker room. Children are restricted to four warm pools that are below the locker room. While we were there, an older lady got into one of the kid pools and then said “kids, it’s ok to swim but you can’t splash any water because I have hearing aids that cannot get wet and they cost $5000 so don’t you dare splash.” (The hot springs pool in question is about 8′ x 10′ and contained multiple children And the children were already in the pool before the lady came.) One of the parents pointed out that there are many pools in which children are not allowed and that she should go into one of those. She said she’d been in the adult-only area, but there were a lot of people and some of the pools were crowded. Um, ok. After some further discussion, she headed back to the adult-only pools, grumbling all the way. How dare those children play in the four pools allotted to them? Who cares if the adults have 16 pools? That’s not enough!

Sigh. If having an adult-only section at the hot springs isn’t enough for some people, I’m skeptical that a kids-only section on planes would work ether. People would probably complain that they had to walk past children on the way to the bathroom. The horror!

Just wanted to say thank you, Manic Mommies. I started listening to the podcast in July, at the suggestion of my husband. (He’d heard one of you on another podcast. Fourcast, I think.) We had our first baby in July and he thought you were interesting and I’d enjoy your podcast.

Today you got me through my first day back at work. I listened to this episode on my way to and from work. I wanted to thank you for helping me get through day 1 as a working mom. If you can help me figure out how to find time to work, get dinner/laundry/dishes done, and still have time to play with and enjoy my baby while she’s a sweet little thing…I’ll be forever grateful. Right now I think I might be just shy of loosing my mind.

  5. Noelle,

We’ve all walked in your shoes. We know how hard it is to leave a baby at day care. We’ve all cried and thought we were terrible mothers. We all wondered how we would do this most impossible job. Eight years later I am here to tell you you can do it! You will survive. You might shift things around, work differently than you imagined, manage things at home with the help of family, friends, or a hired company. Most important is to give that sweet baby love every moment you are with her. And allow yourself permission to be less than perfect at the other stuff. Good Luck!

Holy crap, I just heard the comment on this episode about leaving Tommy with the Sharpie markers and totally shot my americano out of my nose – so funny, I totally needed that!
