If your kids have seen any news on TV or glanced at the front page of your newspaper, they’ve probably asked you this question. This week Jaime Matyas of the National Wildlife Federation returns with some suggestions on how to talk with your children about the oil spill in the Gulf. Erin and Kristin also test out a new mode of remote podcasting, since one of the necessary recording devices is still missing in aftermath of the move.

I had my husband subscribe and she makes it SUPER easy for beginners to cook.
Hello. Been listening to your show for about a month and you make me laugh out loud. Every mom needs that! But on the podcast before this one you were again briefly talking about the oil spill and also mentioned the Columbia disaster and how going to the moon (or not) doesn’t effect the economy. I thought of letting it go, because who reeds this stuff, but I can’t. Not going to the moon, delaying the shuttle, shutting down the shuttle and not having a replacement due to the current government greatly effects our economy in so many states. Especially in my area near Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space center. Thousands of jobs are being lost, schools and businesses are closing I could go on and on, this is not just where I live on the “Space Coast” but in at minimum 6 other states. So yes, the Oil disaster is awful, and will effect us for years to come, but the Space industry does matter! (I won’t go in to the science of it and bore you to tears) I just had to get that off my chest. Thanks for all you do!
I’m not sure we all know enough about the whole situation about the oil spill to be able to form such strong opinions. You would have to spend many many hours reading and discussing with those individuals closely involved to be able to fully understand what is going on. I certainly don’t have 5 hours a day to dedicate to this task of educating myself, so I try to trust those who are closely involved. Many people do not know all the details, don’t believe everything you read or hear.
The bickering you talked about? We call that “brotherly love.” We have two boys – ages 12 and 7 – and this fighting/bickering has gotten worse this summer. I’m not ready for school to start, but a week-long class/camp right now would work nicely!
