I am so ready to get started on my vegetable garden – but the weather is just not cooperating. One day it’s 90 degrees, the next day it’s in the 40′s (you know what they say, if you don’t like the weather in New England, wait a minute).
While I wait, I have a couple of seedlings starting, including onions, broccoli and sunflowers given to me by Garden In the Koop.
They also gave us a Giggling Garden to giveaway to one of our wannabe farmers! To quote the site:
This garden is for the child in all of us! One of our favorites, all of these vegetables are not only heirloom their names and looks will make anyone say “I love my vegetables”. Honestly we didn’t make the names up; there really is a Red Dragon Carrot, a Dinosaur Kale and some Rattlesnake Pole Beans.
This is a garden that will help you and your child or grandchild grow! We have tried to make it as fun as we could, but we left room for you to add some fun. Teach the young person in your life the joy of the garden …and how those vegetables (“ugh”) will not only make them smile, but they actually taste good. This garden speaks to one of our greatest passions here at Garden In The Koop, the health and well being of our children. We brought them fast food and an often too fast lifestyle. Why not bring them back to the slow food and, your garden? Teach them to plant their garden!
What’s In The Box?
12 individual seed packs with 5-6 seeds- one for your box extra for the garden. Coir discs to use for soil; 12 wooden name tags and of course alot of love!
Includes: Rattlesnake Pole Bean, Cow Bean, Dragon Carrot, Veronica Romanesco Cauliflower, Green Zebra Tomato, Dinosaur Kale, Moon & Stars Watermelon, Benning’s Green Tint Squash, Purple Top Globe Turnip, Freckles Lettuce, Purple Tomatillo, Tom Thumb Popcorn
To enter our drawing, leave a comment here by May 1st, telling us your favorite fresh from the garden vegetable. (Sorry, winner must be from the US).

favorite is cilantro! really!
My favorite garden vegetable is sweet corn! Yummy.
Peas… We used to call them “zipper peas” because we could “zip” the pod open to get to the peas
Green beans (and peppers and tomatoes!). There is nothing like fresh veggies that we have grown ourselves!
I love having a ton of cucumbers
I have to pick two. Tomatoes and Basil. Because NOTHING is better than a salad made with tomato and basil that has just been picked from the garden!
My favorite would have to be zucchini. I love grilling them all summer long. yummm can’t wait.
Best fresh veggie has to be the cucumber. But on top of that, PICK ME! I’m moving into a new home and want a garden after years of being crammed into this apartment my loving husband lived in as a bachelor before I arrived….need I say more?!?!?!
I love zucchini because there is nothing as good as homemade zucchini bread!
My favorite is pumpkins….I plant them in the front yard so that I have instant decorations among my plants in the Fall.
Tomatoes!!! But I never seem to get it right! I either get two or three good ones (which DH prices at $13 each for all the $ I put into the garden) or so many that I waste most of them. Yeah yeah yeah, I know I can can them but seriuosly!
I love tomatoes because it reminds me of my childhood when my grandmother always made homemade tomato sauce.
After missing real tomatoes most of the winter, they have to be my favorites in the garden.
Brussels Sprouts. Honestly. Roasted with olive oil and salt…sooooo yummy!
I love zucchini the best. That is one thing that we can grow here and there is plenty of it! I make all kinds of things with it – from savory to sweet! Love it!!
TOMATOES- I love tomatoes fresh out of the garden.
My favorite is tomatoes
Sugar Snap peas. While I love a good, home grown tomato, I can never forget the sheer joy in just pulling them off the vine as a child. YUMMY!
cucumbers!
Has to be beans. Sun warm, crunchy, just a little sweet, yummy!
My girls all love strawberries. And we love cherry tomatoes. We have started “cookie monster watermelon”
Peas. Don’t like them cooked but fresh from the garden is wonderful
Zucchini! Thankfully it is one plant I seem to be able to grow!
Strawberries for sure, then they turn into homemade jam!!
Okra! Great pickled or fried! Mmmmm
Beets! I LOVE beets and fresh from the garden is the only way to eat them!!
Heidi beat me to it – tomatoes and basil – on fresh bread with fresh mozzarella. I could eat it every single day.
I love fresh tomatoes as well. Nothing makes me happier than a yummy tomato sandwich fresh from my garden!
Mine is sweet corn!!
I can’t wait to have some fresh sweet corn!!
We are big fans of tomatoes at my house. My little girl loves to go into her Poppas backyard and eat “matoes.”
Cucumbers and snap peas. My daughters love to sneak snap peas off the plants in the garden and think it’s a treat to get to pick their own cucumbers for dinner.
We love fresh cherry tomatoes!
I love cucumbers fresh from the garden! I don’t have much of a yard (more like a strip of grass) but my parents do and we are doing a joint garden this year.
Fresh garden tomatoes and corn… just wish my son would eat any veggi
Carrots have to be my favorite. As a kid I would pick them from my mom’s garden. Then I would share with the dog. I’d take a bite then give him a bite & so on. When I finally got caught my mom about died! Maybe growing our own veggies will convince DS to eat them!
My favorite is tomatoes. Specifically Beefsteak ones that I could eat like an apple!
We’re planting a garden this year and can’t wait. My kids love to eat anything they can pick themselves. They won’t eat if I get it at the store thought. Even after trying to convince them it’s the same thing!
I love fresh green beans – and strawberries still warm from the sun!
Fresh tomatoes from the garden are the best!
Fuzzy green beans are a close second.
Bell Peppers! I have 12 bell pepper plants in my garden this year.
Our favorite fruit is an Olallieberry (like a blackberry).
As far as a vegetable, my kids love to pick the sugar snap peas!
I am also a HUGE fan of bell peppers – red, orange, and yellow. Perfect dipped in hummus!
The best fresh from the garden vegetable is a tomato! Right off the vine warm from the sun. Juicy and yummy!
PS We say the same thing about the weather in the Northwest, if you don’t like what its doing, just wait a minute, it will change. Last year it snowed on June 10th!
Tomatoes! Hands down, my fav from the garden!
Tomatoes! Something about home grown tomatoes always tastes so much better than anything store bought.
Oh how to pick! But I think my fav is fresh from the garden lettuce, yum! We did 8 varieties last year including some heirloom, just the best.
Fresh Tomatoes! Yum!
Nothing like fresh herbs from the garden. So convenient and flavorful. I really need to start up an herb garden to follow through on my vision of walking outside to snip some basil while making dinner.
My favorite garden fresh vegetable is actually a combination of fresh basil and tomatoes.
Anything from the garden, but if I had to pick just one…it would be the tomato. Nothing better than a tomato fronm the garden. Yum!
Green beans! I love snapping off the ends and eating them raw, so yummy!
