I am so ready to get started on my vegetable garden – but the weather is just not cooperating. One day it’s 90 degrees, the next day it’s in the 40′s (you know what they say, if you don’t like the weather in New England, wait a minute).
While I wait, I have a couple of seedlings starting, including onions, broccoli and sunflowers given to me by Garden In the Koop.
They also gave us a Giggling Garden to giveaway to one of our wannabe farmers! To quote the site:
This garden is for the child in all of us! One of our favorites, all of these vegetables are not only heirloom their names and looks will make anyone say “I love my vegetables”. Honestly we didn’t make the names up; there really is a Red Dragon Carrot, a Dinosaur Kale and some Rattlesnake Pole Beans.
This is a garden that will help you and your child or grandchild grow! We have tried to make it as fun as we could, but we left room for you to add some fun. Teach the young person in your life the joy of the garden …and how those vegetables (“ugh”) will not only make them smile, but they actually taste good. This garden speaks to one of our greatest passions here at Garden In The Koop, the health and well being of our children. We brought them fast food and an often too fast lifestyle. Why not bring them back to the slow food and, your garden? Teach them to plant their garden!
What’s In The Box?
12 individual seed packs with 5-6 seeds- one for your box extra for the garden. Coir discs to use for soil; 12 wooden name tags and of course alot of love!
Includes: Rattlesnake Pole Bean, Cow Bean, Dragon Carrot, Veronica Romanesco Cauliflower, Green Zebra Tomato, Dinosaur Kale, Moon & Stars Watermelon, Benning’s Green Tint Squash, Purple Top Globe Turnip, Freckles Lettuce, Purple Tomatillo, Tom Thumb Popcorn
To enter our drawing, leave a comment here by May 1st, telling us your favorite fresh from the garden vegetable. (Sorry, winner must be from the US).

Tomatoes and peppers-last year we made Pico de gallo with them, and it was delicious!
Pear tomatoes are my fav
Gotta love the cherry tomatoes and strawberries. Hardest thing about them is keeping the kids out of them
My favorite since I was little and sneaking veggies out of my grandpa’s garden are peas! I also love cucumbers and cherry tomatoes!
Cherry tomatoes! Not only do I enjoy them, but my daughter does too. I love it when she asks for a treat and I can say “How about some cherry tomatoes” and she gets all excited to go outside and pick a bowl. Dragon carrots sound cool!
Beans and squash are the faves around here! We LOVE summer growing season and all the freshness it brings!
What could be better than fresh from the vine tomatoes or cucumbers? Although I have to admit that fresh picked corn is probably one of my, and my kids, favorites.
Nothing is better than fresh green beans. My daughter actually will only eat garden green beans.
I’m a fan of fresh tomatoes and my hubby loves green beans. It’ll be interesting to see what our daughter likes this year.
Peas, straight from the garden! I love ‘em.
Snap Peas, what fun to watch them grown and then pick em’ off the vine and eat!!
my kids love their grandmother’s garden…would love to have homegrown food at mine. winning would be a great start
Not sure I can pick one but if so it’s tomatoes! I like to eat them like apples when they come from the garden and I get to eat
most of them because I’m the only one who likes them! Yum just thinking about it!
I’ve always loved carrots, rinse em’ off and they’re great right from the ground…call me crazy but there’s something about that earthy taste that says fresh.
Fresh cucumber. Or Kale! I can’t decide. Anything fresh off the vine, so to speak. I’m trying to get a community garden plot in my town. This would be so fun for my daughter and I to use!
Definitely tomatoes! And cucumbers!
Tomatoes!! They are easy! And I love easy.
Tomatos! Yummy.
Tomatoes, for sure!!!
All of the fresh stuff is the best. But I think I like the squash the best. This year will be our first garden as we finally got our first house!!
My favorite Fresh Veggie is Carrots!
Yellow tomatoes! There are some plants growing in my first ever garden (two 4×4 planter boxes) right this minute, and I CANNOT WAIT to eat them!
Just bought some yellow tomato plants yesterday and waiting for the frost danger to go away before I get them planted…
Fresh lettuce and tomatoes! Yummy!
Tomatoes, cukes, spinach, potatoes, beans, onions, corn…ok anything from the garden. Garden grown is always better, even if you preserve for later!
Tomatoes, definitely. I buy them by the boxful at the farmers market and this year will have my very own vegetable garden!
I love tomatoes but I have had the most luck with chives. They grow like grass and are SO handy to have around. My 4-year old daughter has just started being interested in planting seeds so this would make her very happy.
Tomatoes are by far my favorite. Beefsteak, brandywine, roma, it doesn’t matter–they’re all good. My 5-year-old daughter’s favorite? Broccoli. She picks some off the plant on the way to the park, on the way back from the park, and just because she’s hungry.
My faves are definitely squash–yahoo! It’s so tasty eating out of your own ground!
There is nothing like a fresh garden tomato to perk up my day!
It’s carrots for me! I loved digging them up when I was a kid and munching like a bunny rabbit!
Tomatoes are my favorite.
I love garden fresh tomatoes. I have not had the nerve to try and grow my own but I have bought int a local CSA for the season. I am looking forward to introducing my daughter to a new variety of fresh fruits and veggies.
snap peas and cherry tomatoes – yum!
garlic! Well, is that a vegetable? Fresh garlic is the best.
greenbeans and peppadews!
My kids like veggies more than I do – I would say tomatoes are the biggest winner in my house.
little tiny adorable carrots!
We LOVE green beans! They’re so fun to pick & my son eats them right out of the garden!!
I’ve always been a fan of fresh tomatoes and corn on the cob!
Mmmmm….blueberries are so fun to graze on. I also love to pick off and munch on a few kumquats while I watch my sons in the sand box.
Tomatoes are my favorite. I also love fresh sweet corn and sugar snap peas.
Roma tomatoes and basil so that we can make bruchetta.
Green beans I love fresh steamed green beans! My kids are also dying to start a garden but I have brown thumbs so maybe this well help me find moms green thumb that I shouldve inherited
I love the flavor of home grown jalapeño peppers.
Another favorite is roma tomatoes. I was
surprised at their size, which was a third of
the ones found in stores.
I can’t believe I’m the first to say that soybeans are my favorite. They are a great veggie for my 2 & 4 year olds because the seeds sprout into plants so quickly. The kids are so proud to pick and eat the food they grow that they don’t even realize they’re eating vegetables.
I absolutely love fresh jalapeno peppers from the garden.
My son and I share a love for fresh green beans from the garden. We both could sit and eat them raw. Mmmmmm.
The winner, selected at random by Random.org, was Sarah H. Thanks to everyone for sharing!
