When was the last time you went to the circus?
For me, it was many, many, many, many years ago when my brother and I attended a performance of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. I remember enjoying the performances, but I also recall being thrilled by the whole event – the train ride into Boston without my parents (we were with a friend and his daughter); the cotton candy and popcorn and the train ride back to the ‘burbs with a very sleepy little brother nearly falling asleep standing up.
I know it’s cliche to say, but there is something about a circus that brings back some of the simpler joys of childhood. Which is why I was so excited when the Big Apple Circus invited my family and I to attend a performance later this month. I can already smell the popcorn, and cannot wait to see what my kids think of Grandma the clown.
Plus . . . one of our local readers can enter to win a Family Four pack of tickets, redeemable for a weekday performance at 6:30pm, except for performances on 4/20-4/23. (The circus leaves town on May 16th, so you will need to pick a date before then).
To enter, leave a comment telling us what your most looking forward to seeing at the circus. Winner will be drawn, at random, on Sunday, April 11th and notified by e-mail. You will then have 48 hours to pick your date.

I love seeing my children’s faces when they see all the cool sights and sounds!
I’d love to see my sons watch the clowns. I’m envisioning them literally rolling on the floor!!
Okay so I am embarrassed to say we have never taken our kids to the circus. I know they would be amazed with the stunts, animals and of course the clowns. We’d love to head in to Beantown for a fun family night!
I am a cotton candy addict. I finish what my son doesn’t eat AND get another one for myself! Love the circus since I saw my first one at Madison Square Garden MANY years ago…my son has only seen the Shrine Circus so far, and I would love to take him to this!
I’d love to take my 2 year old son to his 1st circus!
I took my daughter last year with her Girl Scout troop. I would love to take her again, this time with her two brothers, and see their faces light up at the wonder and spectacle. It’s such a great venue because it’s so small. The kids really get to see it all.
We are relocating to the Boston Area on May 1st. I would love to take my kids to the circus as a “welcome to town” reward, since I am pretty sure we are going to be in culture shock!
I’ve actually never taken my kids to the circus, I’ve never been to one myself now that I think about it! I don’t know what we’d be most excited to see, the animals probably or the trapeze artists.
I love to see my girls’ faces as THEY watch the circus. They are both “performers”, so I will then wait until the next week or so for them to perform their own circus based on what they saw!
My triplets turn 4 next week and it would be an awesome birthday present to take them to the circus for the first time. I’ve never been to Big Apple but my memories of Ringling Brothers are of those lights you used to wear on your neck and spin around when the lights went out, the cotton candy, the smell of the animals and – get this- one time I was picked to be the queen of the circus! Got to ride around in a carriage waving at everyone and even got lessons before hand on how to do a “Queen” wave. I have one Drama Queen daughter that would kill for that type of experience!
Watching the kids faces in amazement!
My kids haven’t seen the circus yet, but they would love the chance to go!!
I’ve never taken my sons either, but they are in awe of any gymnasts, stuff like that, the summer olympics were a huge hit in our house! I’d love to take them on a sunny day, see their faces light up! thanks!

We haven’t taken our son to the circus yet, but know he’d love the animals – especially the tigers. Thanks for the reminder!
