Manic Mommies, meet Jennifer Blau, our new fitness coach.
Jennifer is a certified personal trainer and NLP Master Practitioner. She started her career in Finance and worked in corporate America for a number of years before getting married and having kids. After having her first daughter she decided to take on a career more in line with her passion for exercise and fitness and so became certified as a Personal Trainer. Jennifer has always been passionate about health and fitness; she even met her husband doing her first marathon! But she never dreamed of how rewarding and gratifying helping others achieve their health and fitness goals could be.
Jennifer now lives in Singapore with her husband and 3 kids. She works as a Personal Trainer for women, motivating them to get back into shape, to lose that baby weight, or even to train for and compete in marathons and triathlons. She also conducts motivational talks for weight loss groups, particularly on the importance of strength training with regard to healthy living and weight loss goals. Jennifer teaches nutrition sessions and healthy shopping excursions, instructing others how to read food labels, how to shop for food, and overall benefits of being aware of, and in control of, what you eat.
Here’s Jennifer’s first post for us. I hope you will be as inspired by her as I am. She’s even asked me to keep a food diary! ~Erin
It’s that time of year again, and if you are like the majority of Americans, January is when you start making all sorts of fitness and weight loss resolutions. It is a great time to think afresh and start on new health and exercise routines. The key point here is “routine”. Where some people go wrong is that they do really well in January; they stick to a rigid exercise and eating program. But, once one of life’s little bumps gets them off track (like too much chocolate on Valentine’s Day!), they completely throw in the towel because to them it’s all or nothing. And then the momentum is lost, and old bad habits creep back in, and it seems like yet again they have blown their “diet.”
What people forget is that it is not about “all or nothing,” it’s about consistency. The importance of routine is the consistency factor, you fall off the wagon one day, but you consistently get back on the next day.
So here’s my challenge to you for this coming month. Start a balanced exercise and eating routine that you can follow all year, consistently, and then DO IT, all year. Put your head down and don’t think about it too much, just DO IT, all year. Sure there will be bumps in the road, your kids will get sick, you will get sick, there will be holidays, but after missing a workout for any reason at all, you get up the next day and you get back on the horse (or the wagon or the bike, treadmill) and get back to your routine.

WOW, those are some cute kids! Thanks for the post!
Great post. I’ve been doing WW for seems like my entire life, but I do it faithfully every week. I took two months off during the holidays and gained 9 pounds. But after the new year, I went back to writing it all down and emailing my leader to get myself back on track and back to goal, and within 2 weeks I lost it all.
I also bought myself an elliptical, because I just can’t get out the door to a gym, and don’t have the time during the day, my time comes at 8pm at night, or between 5-6 before dinner with my kids running around. Anyways I’ve started the training on it and its taking a little getting used to, but its smack in the middle of my office, so I can’t sit here writing this without the thing staring right at me.
Do you have any suggestions on how to start an elliptical program. I’ve been trying to do 20 mins a day, getting off 3 times cause I’m really out of shape. Is this the right approach? Should I be doing something different?
Thanks
KellyB
Great words, Jen. I have been able to stave off the holiday bulge this year for the first time ever. It was the consistency of moderation and exercise that kept me on track to be sure. Although I have lost some more weight, it has been unintentional….darn tummy bugs. Thanks and I may look to you for keeping up my 1/2 marathon training mojo!
I’m super excited about this post! I hope Jen will be a guest on the show! (I hope I didn’t miss where it said she would)
I’ve been workin out at least 3-4 days a week for three weeks but no weight off yet… Not discouraged!
Come on mommies let’s get sexy!
I have been training with Jen for about 2 plus years and can attest to her great coaching skills, practical approach and emotional support. I am a working mom with two young kids and finding a consistent workout regime is always a challenge. Love her suggestions. What a great website, I look forward to reading more!
I have known Jen through her finance career and forte into her passion. Even prior to making nutrition and fitness her career, she has had a knack for motivating people (including myself) into the proper nutritional choices and fitness routines. She has a great perspective on life and the reality of how to make fitness and nutrition part of your life not “something you have to do”. Anyone who is committed to doing crunches before bed (no matter how late or what her night entailed) is someone who knows how to make it work!
