Have you ever laughed so hard you got a headache?
Well, that was me last night. When I rolled in around midnight my head was pounding! We had such a blast last night at the One Funny Mother show with Dena Blizzard but today I am recovering. Events like these are always a ton of work. I really do think my head hurt from laughing so hard, but it could have easily been the result of the stress: trying to manage a semi-private/public event in a new venue, lugging 13 bottles of pomegranate lemonade, catering trays, and flowers (courtesy of Stop & Shop), unpacking our signage, hijacking parking spots for our sponsor Saturn’s vehicle, tackling the audio issues, oh yeah, and delivering the prop couch…all in a day’s work.
Our event last night went really well. We had over 200 moms at TCAN in Natick (truly a hidden gem here in the Metrowest Boston suburbs). About half were listeners of our podcast. The other half had know idea who the hell we are and that’s OK. If you fall into that category and are a new visitor to our Web site, I hope you’ll listen to our podcasts. Kristin and I do think we’re funny some times (our listeners even tell us we are) but we’re no Dena Blizzards. Dena is hysterical! And I am so proud of her, taking her one woman show on the road. It’s true what she said: She decided to do this after performing at the first Manic Mommies Escape two years ago.
What she realized then, and knows to be true today, is that we moms need to laugh and motherhood is effing funny. She can just tell anecdotes from the her own life and get the whole room crying (proof: “Mom, today, I pooped the letter J”).
I wish we could have opened our reception up to everyone who purchased tickets. But space and budget limitations allowed us to invite our earliest ticket purchasers only. Moms are procrastinators by nature (don’t want to buy a ticket if kid is sick and I can’t go). I get this. It’s Friday and I still haven’t ordered my mother her Mother’s Day flowers. Hell, I haven’t sent her a birthday gift either and that was in April.
What we’ve learned is, when you organize events for moms, there needs to be an incentive (or reward) for committing early. But everyone deserves prizes, so today we’re giving away two additional $100 gift cards from our friends at Stop & Shop!
If you were with us last night, leave a comment here about your favorite moment in Dena’s show. We’ll user Random.org to select two winners and we’ll contact you by email.

I saw the show last night! Dena was truly hilarious. My fave moment was when she was talking about why is it that women think their boobs are too big, but men? Never have that problem when it comes to their schlongs.
I had no idea who Dena Blizzard was before attending last nights show…but she had me with the very first story. I expected to laugh, just not to the point of tears – for the entire show! I’ve become a HUGE fan, telling everyone to GO SEE HER if they get the opportunity.
I’m also now a fan of Manic Mommies. It is such a relief knowing I’m not crazy!
Yes, Dena is truly one funny mother. Although my favorite moment from her show was poignant: her discussion of her breast-cancer-surviving Aunt Angie, and her positive–and downright funny–outlook on life. Thanks for the laughs, I definitely needed them yesterday!
I also didn’t know who Dena was, but could relate to almost her every word. Me and my 7 friends were commenting how we could relate to the part about her husband shut in there room and farting and how she had entered his… (well you know if you were there) we all said we’ll have to use that line, the next time we encounter that situation.
Thanks again and Happy Mother’s Day to all you funny mutha’s!!
I laughed so hard my face hurt. Everything she said was hysterical and so true! Thank you so much for organizing the show, it was great. I also brought a friend who was not a Manic Mommies listener and she is definitely interested in checking you out now.
Erin & Kristin … Great job!!!! I must say my face and stomach hurt so much from the laughter!! Poor Dr. Bob!! What a sport!!
Thanks again it was HILARIOUS!!!
My sides STILL hurt from laughing. Thanks to everyone for coming!
Wow. There were so many hysterical moments. Everything she said was spot on …. I could totally relate. Sadly, the part about the fart oven really hit home. Yes, I do indeed live a sad life! I also got a huge kick out of the dog with one eye…
One of my favorite moments was the part about how her husband de-stresses – I almost cried I was laughing so hard. And the bit about men’s head fat?? Too funny.
Yet another fabulous event from the Manic Moms – thanks so much!
The event was fabulous! One part that stands out to me was when she talked about “vagina friends”. I am SO into that!! I was at the show with one of my V-friends, and couldn’t stop laughing. We discuss everything from A-Z and was so relieved to hear that other women do it too!
Thanks for organizing such a great event and for helping this mom get out on a Thursday! Only the Manic Mommies can get me out on a week night!
This was my second time seeing Dena (thanks to Erin and Kristin both times!)and she didn’t disappoint. The two friends that joined me loved the show too. I only wish that more of the moms I talked it up to had gone – they would have loved it.
As we left TCAN we were laughing about the bit where she talked about eating in the car so that your kids don’t know and ask you for some – hilarious! We had all done it before.
