I love your podcast! I started listening at the beginning of the year, after I received my cool iPod nano for Christmas (one of my favorite things!). I have been working my way through the archives, too, and have had lots of comments to make, but then I get busy and just haven’t left you a message yet. I am a stay-at-home mom with an almost 6 year old boy (in Kindergarten) and an almost 3 year old girl. I had to break my silence (and I promise to give you a fabulous rating on itunes as well) when I heard you list I See Me books as one of your favorite things. I have a show topic suggestion since I know your boys will be going to Kindergarten in the fall. Where I live, in PA, there is much debate about whether children should be “held back” from attending Kindergarten if their birthday is close to the cut off date. In our school district the cut off date is 5 by September 15th. Many parents decide to keep summer birthday children back from attending Kindergarten (especially boys) to give them a “grow year”. It is an interesting topic that brings up lots of issues; does it really benefit the child, which children should be held back, should it be at the parent’s discretion or based on some sort of pre-determined need, does this up the average age of Kindergarteners making it more difficult to know what is appropriate to teach, are we expecting too much of Kindergarteners and that is why they need more time, what about working parents who don’t want to have to pay for another year of daycare/preschool, and on and on!
