Despite my very best intentions to avoid back to school shopping, we were forced into the stores after I sorted through the kids’ wardrobes and discovered that, while the drawers had been filled with clothing, very few items actually fit either child. While we normally shop at Target and Old Navy, we decided to try [...]

Last week, Rochester’s historic Public Market was awarded the 2010 America’s Favorite Farmers Market contest, with over 5,200 votes. I’m sure those of you living in cities with terrific public markets are saying, “Wait a minute, ours is best!” And maybe it is. I can’t say I know how the winners were selected, but after [...]

If I had a dollar for every time someone said that to me, I’d be rich. I don’t know if this is some party line the residents of greater Rochester reserve for the recently relocated, but everyone I meet tells me this. The guy who waxed my eyebrows, the manager at the local Wegmans, the [...]

Readers, meet Erin. No, not that one. Erin H. is a Navy wife, mother of four boys (including one with special needs), a teacher and a parent coach. She’s recently returned to the U.S following a 3-year stint in China (which you can read about here) and runs a few different blogs under the moniker [...]

With summer officially coming to a close, I thought I’d share one of my favorite summer drink recipes! If you have a lot of peaches in the fruit bowl on your counter, as I do, you can swap the peaches for the oranges and use a white wine instead of red. Strawberries and grapes are [...]

Yesterday was a bad day all around. Our site was down. It was cold, windy and rainy. I hadn’t packed a raincoat or an umbrella in my big ol’ suitcase because I never looked beyond the Martha’s Vineyard weekend forecast (which until Sunday morning was absolutely perfect). I have no warm clothes to wear to [...]
Next month I will be seeing my best friend from childhood for the first time in over 20 (25?) years. Looking back through the haze of years I believe I first met her (who shall remain nameless since she certainly did not sign on to this crazy train of oversharing we call Manic Mommies) when [...]
With summer coming to an end and kids getting ready for school (I can’t believe some have started already), it’s time for us to step away from light/summer selections. Room is an amazing story, told from a young boys perspective. This book is brilliantly written and has been long listed for the Booker Prize. To [...]

Today started like any other day really. Up at 4am. 6am flight to NYC. Camping out in a way too cool hotel library while I await the start of today’s launch event with other Intel Insiders. This is my second year participating in the Intel program, and like everything Intel, this space we’re in today [...]
Remember all the gardening we’ve did at the beginning of the summer? Most of it, especially the beautiful new gardens in the backyard, have been overrun by a bumper crop of weeds. If there were awards given for growing crab grass, we would be a blue ribbon winning house as we’ve cultivated a few prime [...]
Hey, hi. Remember me? It’s been over two weeks since I’ve posted anything to anywhere (other than Facebook and Gowalla, but I don’t think that counts) and today I’m working on transitioning back to reality. I’ve ridden my bike into work (and felt surprisingly good after 2 weeks of sitting on my duff and eating [...]

Not really….but kind of. Kristin was on vacation for the past two weeks and Erin’s extensive travel has finally caught up with her. We’ll return next week with a brand new episode. Please be sure to check back then. In the meantime, you can always get your Manic Mommies fix by visiting our fan page [...]

If you haven’t yet listened to this week’s podcast you might not know we are big BIG fans of the 39 Clues series. So we’re thrilled to be stop #4 in a 39-day countdown to the release of the newest book in the series coming out at the end of August. We even have a [...]

So people keep asking me: Are you feeling settled yet? Are you meeting new people? Truth is I have met very few people besides my neighbors and a few friends of my sister-in-law’s who, technically, I had already met. Last week I had drinks with a potential new friend: that listener who recognized my voice [...]

As part of my work as a personal trainer, and overall fitness/wellness coach, I teach courses on healthy eating and nutritious shopping. One of the most surprising tips I tell clients is the importance of what you eat versus exercise with regard to weight loss and staying in shape. Did you know that nutrition is [...]

Every year, when the Tour de France rolls around, I think about the state of Manic Mommies. That’s because we recorded our very first podcast during the Tour. Five. Years. Ago. Sophie was only two months old at the time and Kristin’s husband Steve was in France watching the Tour. I didn’t know Kristin all [...]

It’s been almost a month since we moved out of our house in Massachusetts and I have noticed some differences between my life here and my life back there. While they are mostly minor by all accounts, I thought I would share for no other reason than I have a blog and what else would I do with this info if not publish it?
