I have several blog topics floating through my head, and lots of things to write for my agency and for my clients, but right now all I want to do is curl up under my desk and take a nap.
I blame it on the weather. According to my weather app it’s 19 degrees outside and the forecast doesn’t look to improve anytime soon. I’m not sure the weather gods are listening but this New England girl would like to call winter “over.” Isn’t spring supposed to be arriving soon?
I blame it on my schedule. While Sheryl Sandberg has been encouraging us to “lean in,” I’ve been leaning so much I’m at risk of just tipping right over.
I said yes a few too many times – a trip to Austin? Yes! Speak at a conference for students? Yes! Playdate? Yes! – and now my body has decided that it’s going to take over and start saying no. Starting with “no, I’m not getting out of bed this morning, I don’t care if you think it’s a good idea to go to the gym.”
I blame it on the gym. Or the fact that I haven’t been to the gym or done anything of a semi-physical nature except walk briskly from the parking lot to my office since I ran in Brooks Running’s Cowboy 10K in Austin last weekend. After keeping up my training through much of the winter, the idea of stepping one foot on a treadmill makes me want to cry. Again I say to you, where the heck is spring? I want to go play outside!
And now I think I have a cold. Or as I literally just told my father “today I have a slight cough, tomorrow I can have the cold.”
There is, of course, a light at the end of this particular tunnel. I have steadily made my way through all my scheduled commitments, and received a rave review from one of the teenagers at the aforementioned conference.
I’m working my way through my to do list, and with help from the venti soy latte hitting my blood stream, will focus on that for the rest of the day. Then, it will be the weekend, and while we have much to do (cheer clinic, pizza party, International Day, cookies to make) I’m also planning on “leaning in” to my couch and catching up on some sleep.
If all goes as planned, someone will have to wake me up in the spring.
